Description: The Coordinator of Learning and Community Engagement supports all learning and community engagement activities and events, communications, and record keeping. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, hard-working team with the shared goal of developing and sustaining engaging programming for people of all ages throughout the greater Boston region.

This full-time position supervises the Vocal Arts Program activities on Saturdays in Boston and as such the work week for the coordinator includes Saturdays as well as four days in the office between Monday-Friday.

Reports to: Director of Learning and Vice President of Education and Community Engagement

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the Boston-based Vocal Arts Program (VAP) on Saturday mornings throughout the school year.
  • Serve as the primary H+H contact for VAP students, families, and alumni.
  • Provide organizational and supervisory support for all learning and community engagement activities, including concerts, events, lectures, orientations, recitals, rehearsals, and retreats.
  • Assist with relationship management and ticket reservations for Heartstrings, H+H's ticket equity program.
  • Manage the department's use of the Tessitura database. Maintain accurate records for VAP registration, tuition, ensemble and musicianship rosters, and contact information for students, families, alumni, teachers, Heartstrings partners, and other constituencies.
  • Manage auditions for the VAP ensembles and the High School Soloists Program.
  • Coordinate H+H's scholarship awards application and selection process.
  • Support H+H's partnership activities with area universities, particularly those with the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
  • In conjunction with the Marketing Department, manage production of all print materials for the department.
  • Coordinate all aspects of VAP concert attire, music and music folders, and musicianship class materials.
  • Recruit and supervise Learning and Community Engagement interns and H+H's MLK Summer Scholars. Serve as the primary H+H supervisor for interns through the MGH Aspire Internship Program and other similar collaborative programs.
  • Attend meetings of the Board Education Committee and prepare materials for this committee.
  • Proactively increase knowledge in topics related to this position, including trends in music education and urban education and the experiences of marginalized and at-risk communities.
  • Provide clerical support for Learning and Community Engagement activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A passion for sharing music with all people.
  • Minimum of two years experience working in a youth educational setting, including interaction with families.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience collaborating and connecting with historically marginalized communities.
  • Authentic interest in advocacy for music education and the Handel and Haydn Society.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications. Experience with Tessitura is preferred but not required.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Chinese, or another language spoken by new Bostonians is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Greater Boston's communities and arts ecosystem is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Baroque and Classical music is preferred but not required.
  • Availability to work in Boston on Saturday mornings from 8:30am to 1:00pm September through June is essential. Flexibility to work evenings and/or weekends as required for concerts and events also required.
  • License to drive, though having personal access to a vehicle is not required.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits package included.

Position requires occasional lifting of heavy printed materials, large boxes and retail merchandise as well as the repetitive, daily use of a computer.
